Art Nouveau Inspired Custom Ring
This engagement ring by La Jolla custom jeweler Carl Blackburn was created as a deeply personal Art Nouveau–inspired remake of the couple’s original engagement ring, commissioned to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary. From this angled view, the ring immediately reveals its romantic botanical character, with a brilliant round diamond rising from a richly detailed floral-vine design.
Handcrafted in precious metal, the design centers around a brilliant round diamond set within an ornate motif that echoes the fluid, organic lines of early 1900s jewelry. Rather than treating the center stone as separate from the rest of the ring, the surrounding leaves, flowers, marquise diamonds, and milgrain details make the diamond feel like part of a larger sculptural composition.
Every detail carries symbolic meaning. Ten marquise diamonds are woven into the vine to represent ten years of marriage, while two sculpted flowers symbolize the couple’s two children. The result is not simply decorative. The ring uses craftsmanship to preserve family history, turning an anniversary piece into a wearable record of love, time, and shared life.
