How to Ship Estate Jewelry & Watches

Ship Us Your Jewelry Securely

At C. Blackburn Jewelers we not only buy estate jewelry and timepieces from California residents, we also work with sellers nationwide. Over the past decade, we have bought thousands of precious items from out-of-state customers, including large carat diamond rings, rare antique jewelry, and Rolex watches.

Every item shipped to us is 100% guaranteed protected by Wexler Insurance, when you follow these simple steps which we will guide you through, answering any questions you may have.

1. Securely pack your jewelry or timepiece using bubble wrap or cloth.

2. Place your item(s) in a box smaller than the bigger FedEx box you’ll be using to ship us your jewelry. This can be the Small Flat FedEx box, or any sturdy box that fits into a Medium or Large FedEx box.

3. Both the inner box and the outer box should be taped at the seams, to ensure that the ends do not open in transit.

4. You must use the pre-addressed, pre-insured FedEx Shipping label that C. Blackburn Jewelers will send you via email. You’ll print out and adhere this label to the outside of your FedEx box, usually by first adhering a plastic FedEx pouch to the outer box, then sliding the printed FedEx label into this pouch.

5. You must take the FedEx box to a FedEx Office. This cannot be a drop box, or a satellite drop place like Walgreen’s Drug store. It must be a FedEx Office & Print Shop with actual FedEx agents working behind the counter; or an actual FedEx Shipping Center which is not also a print shop but a dedicated FedEx Store just for FedEx shipping.

6. When you hand the FedEx box to the FedEx agent at the counter, you must make sure it is scanned in front of you (not later), and that you receive a printed FedEx receipt from the FedEx agent. This printed receipt is your proof that the package was properly handed to an authorized FedEx agent.

Ready to sell us your jewelry? The first step (if you haven’t done it yet) is to tell us about the fine jewelry or watch that you would like to sell, so that we can make you a preliminary cash offer.

Additional Shipping Tips

Packing Your Fine Jewelry Safely

As far as packing material goes, bubble wrap is widely used for jewelry shipping. It provides excellent cushioning and protects delicate items from scratches and impacts. Bubble wrap is available in various sizes and can easily be cut and shaped to fit different jewelry pieces.

Tissue paper or microfiber cloth (such as velvet) also can be used to wrap individual jewelry items before placing them in the FedEx box. These soft materials provide an extra layer of protection and prevent scratching or tangling.

Here are some additional recommendations for packaging various types of jewelry.

Necklaces: Lay the necklace flat on a soft material, such as tissue paper or microfiber cloth, and fold it gently to prevent tangling.

Chains: Chains can easily get tangled during shipment, sometimes requiring up to an hour to untangle. So, it is important that you place a portion of the chain (at least a third) into a pouch or bag, and then the rest in a separate bag. Then place these two bags into a larger bag.

Diamond Rings: Place the ring in a small jewelry box or a ring box. Add padding to prevent the ring from moving around.

Earrings: Wrap each earring individually in tissue paper or microfiber cloth. Place them in a small jewelry box or use an earring card to keep them organized and secure.

Bracelets: Lay the bracelet flat on a soft material and wrap it gently to prevent tangling. If the bracelet has a clasp, make sure it is fastened securely to prevent it from coming undone.

Lastly, keep the contents a secret. Do not tell anyone, including the FedEx worker, that you are shipping jewelry. And don’t place any label or writing on the box that states the contents are jewelry.

As we mentioned, our owner Carl Blackburn has safely received and bought 1000s of precious items from out-of-state sellers over the past decade. When working with C.
